How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments varies according to the individual and their complaint. Typically, people come for five or six weekly sessions initially, with frequency reducing as they improve. Some people opt to have regular acupuncture as part of their health maintenance. 

Is acupuncture covered by private health insurance?

Acupuncture is covered by many private health insurers but check your individual policy or contact your insurer for confirmation. 

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are so fine most people don’t feel their insertion. They may experience a warmth, tingle, dull ache or heaviness once the needles are in place. Acupuncture is usually described as relaxing.

Can I have acupuncture alongside conventional treatments and medications?

Acupuncture is frequently used alongside orthodox medical treatments and medications. 

Is acupuncture suitable for all ages?

Acupuncture is regarded as very gentle and suitable for all ages, including babies and children.

How long should I allow for my appointment?

The initial appointment will take between 1-1 ½ hours. Follow-up appointments will last between 45 minutes and an hour. 

Is acupuncture safe?

The needles used are single-use, sterile and disposable. British Acupuncture Council recommended hygiene practices are observed to ensure safety, approved by the Department of Health. The practice is registered with Wiltshire Council.
